Grethcel Soltones gestures in a huddle with the Lady Stags. Josh Albelda, ABS-CBN SportsMANILA, Philippines – When the final whistle blew on Gretchel Soltones' NCAA career, the San Sebastian College star and reigning three-time Most Valuable Player refused to shed any tears.

Soltones collected several trophies during her stint with the Lady Stags, but never won the biggest prize of them all. Her San Sebastian teams went to the Finals in four of her five playing years, but lost all of them.

Perhaps the most painful loss of them all came Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City, when the Arellano University Lady Chiefs trounced the Lady Stags in four sets, 25-15, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16. It marked the second straight year that San Sebastian lost in the Finals despite having a thrice-to-beat advantage.

"Bakit ako iiyak?" Soltones said after their game. "Natalo na nga kami, iiyak pa ako?'

"For me, I tried my best," she stressed. "We tried our best, but we didn't make it. Wala naman siguro kaming dapat hingin pa sa mga sarili namin, other than our best."
The "Lady Beast" doubts her Finals losses had any impact on the legacy she leaves in San Sebastian. "We tried our best talaga," she said. "Wala nang natira sa amin."
