Army finishes second, keeps FEU winless in the process

Jeff VenancioThe Philippine Army needed four sets against a feisty FEU side, but they ultimately broke through and wrapped up second place with a 25-15 25-17 24-26 25-20 triumph, Friday at the FilOil Flying V Arena, in the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference.

Army moved up to 6-1, just behind the 7-0 Cagayan Valley Rising Suns. FEU meanwhile couldn't register a win in their seven-game stint in the tourney.

Rachel Anne Daquis moved into the starting line-up beginning with the second set, and the move worked wonders for Coach Rico De Guzman, as she scored a team-high 16 markers, 14 on spikes. Jovelyn Gonzaga added 12 points, while Michelle Carolino and Nerissa Bautista managed eight apiece.

The Army got 16 points from Bernadeth Pons, while Mary Joy Palma put together 15 markers. The duo combined for 25 spikes, but no other FEU player scored more than five points.
