Import who beat TNT joins KaTropa

Denzel BowlesTNT Ka Tropa is bringing in a former PBA Best Import, one who played for a rival company.

TNT team manager Virgil Villavicencio yesterday divulged that Denzel Bowles, who starred for the B-Meg Llamados and captured the Best Import award in 2012, has signed to play for the Ka Tropa in the Commissioner’s Cup.

“It’s a done deal,” said Villavicencio when contacted by Bulletin-Tempo.

The official of the TNT said that they expect Bowles to arrive Monday, “but it depends on him, his (plane) ticket is already available” in time for the team’s resumption on their practice session for the import-flavored conference set March 17....

Nash Racela believes TNT exceeded expectations facing San Miguel

 TNT coach Nash Racela surprised PBA fans by taking defending champion San Miguel to the limit in their best-of-7 semifinals series. Richard Esguerra, ABS-CBN SportsMANILA, Philippines — The TNT KaTropa may have lost to the San Miguel Beermen in the semifinals of the PBA Philippine Cup, but head coach Nash Racela believes his team still managed to exceed expectations.

Playing without injured star point guard Jayson Castro, the KaTropa could not match San Miguel's firepower in the 3rd quarter and wound up losing 96-83.

"I think the team exceeded expectations," said Racela after the loss. "Nobody expected us to be in this position."...

With TNT ousted, injured Jayson Castro ponders blown opportunity in Game 6

 There wasn't much Jayson Castro, out with a hamstring injury, could do in Game 7 but watch as TNT was overpowered by San Miguel. Richard Esguerra, ABS-CBN SportsMANILA, Philippines — TNT point guard Jayson Castro could only lament the lost opportunity for himself and his teammates after the KaTropa bowed out of the PBA Philippine Cup playoffs with a loss to San Miguel Beer in the semifinals.

With Castro sitting in the stands, the Beermen came away with a 96-83 victory over the KaTropa to advance to the finals. "The Blur" missed the game due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Game 6, a 104-88 TNT loss that allowed SMB to force the deciding game.

"Oo (nakakapanghinayang), kasi malaki 'yung chance namin," Castro said after the game....

Courtesy of the PBA Media BureauMANILA, Philippines — The San Miguel Beermen kept their three-peat hopes alive as they overwhelmed the undermanned TNT KaTropa, 96-83, in Game 7 of their PBA Philippine Cup semifinals series on Monday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The two-time defending champion Beermen used a dominant third quarter, anchored by their starting five, to pull away from the KaTropa, who were playing without injured star point guard Jayson Castro in the win-or-go home showdown.

Thanks to a strong display from their starters, the Beermen advanced to the Finals of the Philippine Cup for the third straight season, where they now have a chance to win the All-Filipino crown for the third consecutive time....
