MANILA, Philippines – Even as he was relieved to finally snap a five-game losing streak, NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao sought to maintain a realistic perspective of their situation in the ongoing 2016-17 PBA Philippine Cup.
The Road Warriors pulled off a 110-98 victory over the TNT KaTropa on Saturday in Guiao's hometown of Pampanga, giving the fiery head coach only his second victory with the NLEX franchise. It was also their first win since beating Alaska in their first game of the conference, and snapped a streak of five consecutive losses.
"It is a big relief to win after a five-game losing streak, and it's more special because we beat a title contender," Guiao said after the win.
But he was quick to add: "It's just one win for us."...
Carlo Lastimosa finished with 22 points and every one of his teammates scored, as NLEX routed TNT 110-98 at the Angeles University Foundation gym in Angeles City on Saturday to snap a 5-game losing streak in the PBA Philippine Cup.
Sean Anthony added 13 points and 13 rebounds for NLEX, which hadn't won since its first game on November 25, when the Road Warriors beat Alaska.
"It's a big relief to win after a five-game losing streak. It's more special because we beat a title contender but it's just one win for us," NLEX head coach Yeng Guiao said....

But with five games left to play starting with a matchup against TNT Ka Tropa this Saturday in Angeles City, Guiao said the chance is there although admittedly it is slim....
Former MVP Asi Taulava had a talk with NLEX management and coach Yeng Guiao on Monday night and said that he would stay as a Road Warrior and help the team the best he can for the rest of the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations.
Reports of the 43-year-old Taulava asking to be traded surfaced a couple of weeks ago after his playing time under new coach Guiao diminished significantly.
Team and player, according to team manager Ronald Dulatre, were able to agree on something, with Taulava reportedly telling Guiao that his statements were just “out of frustration.”...
Young fans who have only heard the names Jayjay Helterbrand, Mick Pennisi, Danny Seigle and Asi Taulava in the past season or two were deprived of seeing four of the most stellar and consistently effective players the league has ever seen.
They have a total of 19 PBA championships, 14 Mythical Team selections and more than 2,300 games combined.
But these days, these members of "club 40" — players north of 40 years old — are picking up more fouls than making field goals (26-22). In some nights, they're collecting DNPs....
