The defeat – which snapped Phoenix's two-game winning streak and dropped their record to 4-4 – squandered a 26-point effort from rookie Matthew Wright, the only member of Phoenix's guard rotation to escape Vanguardia's wrath.

"Aside from Matt, walang maganda ang laro sa backcourt," Vanguardia said bluntly after their loss.

Wright tried to spark another Phoenix comeback in the final quarter, and his put-back of a teammate's miss made it a nine-point game with six minutes left. However, they fell apart defensively after that, giving up open three-pointers to Jericho Cruz that pushed Rain or Shine's lead back to double digits.

"Simon (Enciso) was awful today, Gelo (Alolino) was on and off," Vanguardia said of his two young floor generals, who combined to make only five of their 16 attempts from the field.

"It's not the usual game of Cyrus (Baguio)," he continued, referring to the veteran who also struggled with his shot (3-of-11 from the field).
