TNT foils San Miguel, just a win away from finals

Jayson Castro and Kelly Williams each had 18 points for TNT. Photo from the PBA Media BureauMANILA -- TNT held off San Miguel Beer for a 101-94 win on Thursday to take a 3-2 series lead in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals at Araneta Coliseum.

Jayson Castro carried the team in the first three quarters, then Kelly Williams provided the finishing kick to bring the KaTropa to just a win away from making it to the finals.

After trailing the defending champions, 32-24, in the 1st quarter, Castro and co. took over in the 2nd, outscoring the Beermen 26-8 to gain the upperhand 50-40.

In the 4th, San Miguel threatened to challenge as foul trouble plagued TNT. Free throws by June Mar Fajardo and Arwind pulled the Beermen to within 89-85 with barely 3 minutes left to go.

But Kelly Williams delivered in the critical windup to preserve the win.
 
Castro had 18 points and 7 assists for TNT, while Williams scored 8 of TNT’s last 12 points to finish with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
