PBA revises Commissioner’s Cup schedule, shortens playoffs

PBA commissioner Chito Salud. InterAKTV/Niko BolanteThe PBA has revised its schedule for the Commissioner’s Cup, lengthening the elimination round and shortening the playoffs.

The tournament, which tips off Friday, will end on May 24 at the latest.

The elimination round, which had initially featured just nine games per team, has been revised to feature 14 matches per squad using the intra-inter format used in the Philippine Cup.

The top eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals.

The semifinals and finals, meanwhile, have been shortened to best-of-five series. It will mark the first time the PBA will feature a best-of-five championship round since 2004.
