Junel Baculi planning US trip to scout GlobalPort import for Governors’ Cup
Learning the lessons from his team’s last-place finish in the Commissioner’s Cup, Junel Baculi is planning a trip to the United States to personally scout his team’s reinforcement for the next conference.
“We don’t want to commit the same mistake we had last conference. We want to make sure we get the right import we need,” said Baculi, who is looking for a player under the 6-foot-5 height limit set in the Governors’ Cup.
Last conference, the Batang Pier won just two games to finish in the cellar in Baculi’s first tournament with the team. This was despite GlobalPort’s massive buildup prior to the competition, trading for Sol Mercado and Japeth Aguilar in separate deals.
Baculi was unhappy with the performance of the team’s first import, Justin Williams, a defensive demon who had few moves on offense. The team brought in Walter Sharpe, who was sent home after two games being photographed unconscious outside a night spot.
By the time the team brought in Sylvester Morgan, the Batang Pier’s slide could no longer be stopped.
