Pinoy chess team braces for Vietnam tourney
THE national chess team will be seeing action next in the 2nd HD Bank Cup International Open Chess tournament 2012 scheduled on March 1 to 8 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Super Grandmaster Oliver Barbosa will spearhead the country’s campaign in the nine-round tournament which is expected to lure participants from China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Uzbekistan, among others.
Barbosa is fresh from winning the 10th Parsvnath International Grandmasters Chess Tournament held in New Delhi, India.
Joining Barbosa in Vietnam are Grandmasters John Paul Gomez and Mark Paragua, International Masters Rolando Nolte, Ronald Bancod and Emmanuel Senador, FIDE Master Christopher Castellano, and US National Master Albert Rivera.
