GM Sanchez finishes 11th in Cannes
Filipino Grandmaster (GM) Joseph Sanchez settled for a share of the 11th place in the 26th Cannes Chess Festival held at the Lerins Island in France.
Sanchez scored 5.5 points to join GM Sebastian Feller, FIDE Master Lucas Di Nicolantonio and Said Brih of France, GM Krikor Sevag Mekhitarian of Brazil, GM Nenad Sulava of Croatia, and GM Michele Godena and International Master (IM) Giulio Borgo of Italy.
GM Evgeny Romanov of Russia grabbed the top spot with 7 points followed by top seed GM Etienne Bacrot, GM Tigran Gharamian and GM Fabien Libiszewski of France, GM Alexander Fier of Brazil and IM Axel Rombaldoni of Italy with 6.5 points each.
Sharing the seventh to 10th were GM Yannick Pelletier of Switzerland, GM Valeriy Neverov of Ukraine, GM Ruben Felgaer of Argentina and IM Igor Blechzin of Russia with 6 points.
Sanchez will be seeing action next in the 2012 Cappelle la Grande Open scheduled on March 3 to 10 also in France, and the 2012 La Roda Open in Albacete, Spain on April 4 to 8.
