Roach shoots back at Floyd: You're ducking Manny

February 05, 2012

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Freddie Roach said the reason why the super fight didn’t work out is because Floyd Mayweather Jr. priced himself out to evade Manny Pacquiao.

"When you call somebody out and then you offer a 70-30 split, you know that is a deal-breaker,” Roach told Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.

“So who is really wearing the dress?" asked the veteran boxing trainer.

This was Roach's reaction to Mayweather’s tweet, wherein the unbeaten fighter called Pacquiao “Miss Pac Man.”

“I’m fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th because Miss Pac Man is ducking me,” said Mayweather through Twitter.

Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz said the Filipino boxer had no problem with a 50-50 revenue split.

But when Mayweather tried to buy them out with $40 million, Pacquiao offered to split the revenue to 45-55.

“With 55 going to the winner of the fight,” Koncz said.

Mayweather, however, refused the offer and took the Miguel Cotto fight instead.

"Fifty-fifty is the only way that fight is going to happen. Both guys are superstars and they both have big egos and they won't settle for anything less," said Roach.
