Donaire secures doctor’s clearance to fight anew

February 10, 2012

Nonito Donaire Jr.NEWLY crowned World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. is likely to take on Mexican Jorge Arce in May after his doctors declared his left hand free from fracture or any serious injury.

Many boxing fans were alarmed after Donaire took off his gloves and displayed a blood soaked left hand after he won against Puerto Rican Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. last Saturday (Sunday in Manila). Donaire, known for scoring most of his knockouts with a left hook, injured his powerful left hand early in the fight.

“He’s already been using it for a couple of days, typing on the Internet and everything. In a few weeks, it should be fine, and then he’s going to start exercising and strengthening the tendons with hand exercises,” Donaire’s manager Cameron Dunkin told writer Lem Satterfield of boxing website ringtv.craveline.com.

Donaire, in a separate interview with Brad Cooney of 8countnews.com said that the Arce fight is quickly taking shape, “It’s now under discussion with my promoter Top Rank. This would be a very exciting and interesting fight. It has a big name marketability, and would do well if put on in Mexico, Philippines, or Vegas,” he said.
