Arce wants to prove Donaire is no monster

February 13, 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Mexican boxer Jorge Arce is not impressed with new World Boxing Organization super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire's victory over Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. last February 4 and wants to prove that the "Filipino Flash" is not a "monster."

Donaire defeated Vazquez via split decision, but this did not impress Arce who defeated Vazquez via a 12th round stoppage when they fought in May 2011.

"The people are asking for it because Nonito just beat 'Papito' Vazquez, a fighter I knocked out," Arce said in a Boxing Scene interview.

Arce will have to get past Lorezo Parra in their non-title rematch on February 18, but he is already looking forward to fighting Donaire, one of the Top 5 pound-for-pound fighters in the world.

"I think I have the style to beat him. He says that he's the best of the division, and I just say that I'll beat him," Arce said.

"I will demonstrate that he's not the monster that they say he is, nor is he the successor to Manny Pacquiao."

Arce has won titles at the super bantamweight division but is now campaigning at bantamweight. He is ranked by The RING Magazine as the No. 10 boxer in the bantamweight division. He has 59 wins, six losses, two draws and 45 knockouts in his career.

Donaire is currently recovering from a left hand injury he sustained against Vazquez, but his manager, Cameron Dunkin, said they have already agreed to fight Arce.
