MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino cue artist Ramon "Maestro Monching" Mistica is setting his sights on the upcoming CBSA Alberta 9-Ball Tournament set for March 16-18 in Alberta, Canada.

"I hope to do well in this event," said Mistica, one of the country's top pool instructors and a friend of world No. 1 Dennis Orcollo.

Mistica, who goes by the moniker "Maestro Monching," rose to national prominence in the 1980s after a victory over Filipino billiards legend Jose "Amang" Parica.

A formidable cast of participants from Europe, the United States and Canada will also compete in the tournament.

Former World 9-Ball champion Alex Pagulayan and Edwin Montal are considered the favorites, while three-time Canadian 9-Ball champion Alain Martel, Jason Klatt, Luc Salvas and Tyler Edey are also contenders. -- By Marlon Bernardino
