Tams, Stags hurdle rivals
TERRENCE Romeo fueled Far Eastern University’s early breakaway as the Tamaraws drubbed the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 69-52, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Romeo knocked in eight of his 17 points in a pivotal second-quarter run to help the Tamaraws streak to their fourth straight win and claim solo second (4-1) in Group B.
“We just have to work on our ball-sharing and to involve more players in our offense,” said FEU coach Bert Flores.
Earlier, Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang carried San Sebastian through another tough outing as the Stags disposed of Lyceum, 78-72, to climb to third behind the Tamaraws in Group B....
Tams clash with Bombers in Filoil Hanes Cup today
Far Eastern University guns for a fourth victory against Jose Rizal U in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup today at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Tamaraws, running second in Group B at 3-1, tackle the Bombers at 3:30 p.m. with FEU coach Bert Flores worried about the team’s defense.
“We have to strengthen our defense,” said Flores. “We already solved our problem in rebounding. But now, we need a stopper.”...
Tolomia’s triple lifts FEU past Adamson in Filoil Pre-season Cup
MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University leaned on clutch triple from Cris Tolomia to hold on to a 67-60 victory over hard luck Adamson University in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Cup at the Arena in San Juan.
Tolomia knocked down a wide open triple with 34.7 seconds left for the Tamaraws, who missed the services of Terrence Romeo and Clarence Foronda to douse the Falcons’ uprising.
Roger Pogoy iced the victory with two clutch freethrows with 1.6 after he was fouled by Adamson newcomer Jericho Cruz on a scramble for the ball....
Tams battle Falcons sans 2 mainstays
MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern U guns for a second straight victory against an unbeaten Adamson sans its two key players in today’s resumption of the 2012 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Tams will be playing the Falcons in their 3:30 p.m. encounter minus Terrence Romeo and John Clarence Foronda, who will serve out their one-game suspensions assessed on them for disqualification foul they committed in the fight-marred 72-50 rout of the Lyceum Pirates Monday.
Romeo and Foronda were just two of the three individuals sanctioned by the league after it also banned a fan, Andrei Mendoza, from entering the venue for the rest of the tournament for punching FEU’s Gryann Mendoza without provocation during the melee....
2 Tams sacked; cage fan banned
MANILA, Philippines - Organizers of the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup yesterday sacked two Far Eastern U players and banned a Lyceum fan who figured in a brawl during the Tams-Pirates clash at The Arena in San Juan City last Monday.
League commissioner Ato Badolato said FEU’s Terrence Romeo and John Clarence Foronda were suspended for one game each for disqualification fouls after they manhandled Lyceum’s Faustine Pascual in the fight-marred game won by the Tams, 72-50.
On the other hand, Andrei Mendoza, a former Letran player who is reportedly undergoing residency years for Lyceum, was banned in any league venue for the rest of the season for storming onto the court and punching Gryan Mendoza of FEU....
