FAR Eastern U’s Anthony Hardgrove elevates to block Clint Nuñez of Jose Rizal U in yesterday’s game at Filoil Flying V Arena.TERRENCE Romeo fueled Far Eastern University’s early breakaway as the Tamaraws drubbed the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, 69-52, in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Romeo knocked in eight of his 17 points in a pivotal second-quarter run to help the Tamaraws streak to their fourth straight win and claim solo second (4-1) in Group B.

“We just have to work on our ball-sharing and to involve more players in our offense,” said FEU coach Bert Flores.

Earlier, Calvin Abueva and Ian Sangalang carried San Sebastian through another tough outing as the Stags disposed of Lyceum, 78-72, to climb to third behind the Tamaraws in Group B....

Padilla sacked; Stags vs Blazers

MANILA, Philippines - Organizers of the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup continued to crack the whip oin erring players as they suspended UP’s Alvin Padilla for one game for incurring a pair of flagrant fouls.

“Alvin Padilla is suspended for one game for incurring two unsportsmanlike fouls that were meant to hurt,” league commissioner Ato Badolato told The STAR yesterday.

Only recently, the league has also suspended for two games Arellano coach Koy Banal and one game each for the Chief’s Fil-Canadian rookie AJ Serjue and the St. Benilde Blazers’ Ralph Deles and Carlo Lastimosa for the brawl that marred St. Benilde’s 67-47 rout of Arellano....

The 5:15 p.m. main game, where the unbeaten Bulldogs will go for a sixth victory, will come after a pair of matches featuring teams vying for breakthrough wins.

JRU stifles San Sebastian

MANILA, Philippines — Solid on both ends, Jose Rizal University stunned debuting San Sebastian, 79-65, Monday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the San Juan Arena.

Starting point guard Alex Almario led a balanced attack by the Heavy Bombers, who hiked their record to 3-1.

Almario fired 22 points, including a top of the key jumper that sealed the game....

SBC, SSC appeal case of sacked Lions, coach

MANILA, Philippines - San Beda yesterday asked the NCAA Policy Board to reduce the penalty slapped on two of its banned foreign players and suspended local cagers for their involvement in a brawl during a volleyball game at San Beda’s St. Placid Gym last December.

San Sebastian athletic director Frank Gusi also appealed the two-year ban meted on SSC volleyball mentor Roger Gorayeb.

In a letter signed by San Beda rector president Fr. Aloysius Maranan and submitted by its Management Committee representative Jose Mari Lacson, San Beda sought for a two- or three-game suspension on Nigerian Ola Adeogun and American Julius Armon instead of one year....
