Bulldogs bite, rip Pirates in one-sided show

MANILA, Philippines - Firing on all cylinders, unbeaten National University blew past Lyceum, 82-52, to keep its rampage going in the Filoil Flying V Pre-season Hanes Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena yesterday.

The Bulldogs picked up their seventh win in as many games, moving a victory away from a clean sweep of the Group B eliminations heading into the quarterfinals. The Pirates suffered their fifth loss in six games.

Arellano U bucked the absence of coach Koy Banal and player Adam Serjue to suspension, overcoming a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to prevail over Jose Rizal U, 76-74.

NU drew production from 11 of the 14 players it fielded in, bannered by starting center Emmanuel Mbe, who had 16 points and 12 rebounds as the supporting cast chipped in 39 markers, led by Mark de Guzman’s 13 spiked by three triples....

Lyceum breaks free in the fourth to beat EAC

Russell Yaya and Jan Jamon, both of EAC.MANILA, Philippines — Lyceum pulled away late to hack out a 59-47 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Monday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the San Juan Arena.

Marksman Cris Cayabyab scored a game-high 18 points despite missing all of his shots from deep.

Both teams struggled from the field. The Pirates shot 32% while the Generals only hit 17 out of 55 attempts for a woeful 31%....

2 Tams sacked; cage fan banned

MANILA, Philippines - Organizers of the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup yesterday sacked two Far Eastern U players and banned a Lyceum fan who figured in a brawl during the Tams-Pirates clash at The Arena in San Juan City last Monday.

League commissioner Ato Badolato said FEU’s Terrence Romeo and John Clarence Foronda were suspended for one game each for disqualification fouls after they manhandled Lyceum’s Faustine Pascual in the fight-marred game won by the Tams, 72-50.

On the other hand, Andrei Mendoza, a former Letran player who is reportedly undergoing residency years for Lyceum, was banned in any league venue for the rest of the season for storming onto the court and punching Gryan Mendoza of FEU....

Tamaraws whip Pirates in fight-hit Filoil match

MANILA, Philippines - Far Eastern University rolled past Lyceum, 72-50, yesterday but lost two key players to suspension in a fight-marred game that also saw a spectator storm into the court and punch an FEU player in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Pre-Season Cup at The Arena in San Juan City.

With the Tams way ahead at 69-46 with four minutes remaining in the contest, Clarence Foronda and Terrence Romeo were caught ganging up on Lyceum’s Faustine Pascual in a scuffle. The two Tams were slapped disqualifying fouls and were subsequently ejected from the court.

A spectator, later identified as former Letran Knight Andrei Mendoza, who was reportedly undergoing residency for the Pirates, entered the court and punched FEU’s Gryann Mendoza, triggering a melee....

Arellano University, Emilio Aguinaldo down foes in FilOil Preseason Cup

MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University and Emilio Aguinaldo came back from a double-digit deficit to down respective foes Saturday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

The Chiefs, who are now under head coach Koy Banal, trailed by 14 points before turning back Lyceum, 89-81, while the Generals overcame St. Benilde, 77-72, in overtime.

Adam Serjue caught fire from downtown en route to a 22-point night to go along with three rebounds and four assists to lead Arellano....
