Tams clash with Bombers in Filoil Hanes Cup today
Far Eastern University guns for a fourth victory against Jose Rizal U in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup today at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
The Tamaraws, running second in Group B at 3-1, tackle the Bombers at 3:30 p.m. with FEU coach Bert Flores worried about the team’s defense.
“We have to strengthen our defense,” said Flores. “We already solved our problem in rebounding. But now, we need a stopper.”
San Sebastian, which narrowly survived St. Benilde two days ago, tries to string up a third win versus Lyceum at 1:45 p.m....
JRU stifles San Sebastian
MANILA, Philippines — Solid on both ends, Jose Rizal University stunned debuting San Sebastian, 79-65, Monday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the San Juan Arena.
Starting point guard Alex Almario led a balanced attack by the Heavy Bombers, who hiked their record to 3-1.
Almario fired 22 points, including a top of the key jumper that sealed the game....

MANILA, Philippines - After some close shave against less fancied opponents, defending champion Ateneo hopes to get its rhythm going when the Blue Eagles take on Mapua today in the 2012 Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
Game time is at 12 noon with the Eagles (5-1) gunning for their sixth win in seven starts in a bid to close in on unbeaten pacesetter San Beda (7-0) in Group A.
Ateneo’s assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga, who’s calling the shots while head tactician Norman Black is busy with Talk n Text’s campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals, admitted the Eagles are still working on the right chemistry....
Ateneo trips JRU in Fr Martin Cup
MANILA, Philippines - The Ateneo Eagles subdued the Jose Rizal University Bombers, 77-71, to post its second straight victory in the Fr. Martin Summer Cup basketball tournament at the San Beda gym in Mendiola last Sunday.
Kiefer Ravena scored 18 points while Tonito Gonzaga and Nico Salva added 15 points apiece for the fancied Eagles, who showed the way in Group A.
In the other seniors game, Eric Acuna fired 10 of his 18 points in the third period as the Informatics Icons trounced the Ateneo-B side, 80-62....
AdU, JRU to miss key men in Filoil Cup
MANILA, Philippines - Its backcourt decimated by the graduation of ace playmakers Lester Alvarez and Jeric Canada, Adamson U will have to double its effort if it hopes to contend in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup firing off April 14 at the Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
"Well, many have graduated, especially our two point guards (Alvarez and Canada), so it will be tough for us. But I hope the others will step up," said Adamson coach Leo Austria, who guided the Falcons to a Final Four finish in last year's UAAP.
"The good thing is we'll still have Alex (Nuyles) and Eric (Camson) with us. We'll just have to motivate the others to help in our campaign," said Austria, who will also be missing top gun Jan Colina....
