Knights turn back Altas; Generals up

MANILA, Philippines - Letran drew strength from the return of big man Raymond Almazan as it repulsed Perpetual Help, 71-67, to fuel its playoff drive in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Cup at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.

The 6-7 Almazan scored six points, pulled down 15 rebounds and came through with three blocks to help the Knights even their record at 2-2.

“I told him he will miss a lot not playing this year, I gave him time to think and I’m glad he finally came to his senses,” said Letran coach Louie Alas, referring to Almazan, who missed the team’s first three games due to personal reasons.

Mark Cruz shot 16 points while Jam Cortez and Jonathan Belorio combined for 26 points and 21 rebounds for the Knights, who missed the services of the Alas brothers Kevin (foot) and Jun Jun (hyperextended knee) due to injuries....

Lyceum breaks free in the fourth to beat EAC

Russell Yaya and Jan Jamon, both of EAC.MANILA, Philippines — Lyceum pulled away late to hack out a 59-47 win over Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Monday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the San Juan Arena.

Marksman Cris Cayabyab scored a game-high 18 points despite missing all of his shots from deep.

Both teams struggled from the field. The Pirates shot 32% while the Generals only hit 17 out of 55 attempts for a woeful 31%....

Alex Nuyles scores on a reverse layupMANILA, Philippines — Adamson banked on its hot shooting in the fourth period for a 77-59 dumping of Emilio Aguinaldo College Friday in the Filoil Flying V Pre-Season Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

A triple from Roider Cabrera gave the Falcons their first double digit lead with seven minutes left in the game before Alex Nuyles and Jericho Cruz aided in stretching the gap.

The Falcons notched their second victory in three games but coach Leo Austria recognizes the fact that they’re not the same team which made a run to the final four in the UAAP last season....

Bulldogs mangle Generals

The National University Bulldogs posted its fourth straight victory as it thrashed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 93-52, in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Pre-Season Hanes Cup at the Arena in San Juan City yesterday.

The Bulldogs dictated the tempo of the entire game with Cedrick Labing-isa notching a back-to-back three-point shots at the 5:40 mark of the fourth quarter earning his team a huge 48-point advantage (87-39).

“Our second unit stepped up. It’s a good experience for them. We want to phase ourselves in terms of intensity,” said NU coach Eric Altamirano....

Arellano University, Emilio Aguinaldo down foes in FilOil Preseason Cup

MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University and Emilio Aguinaldo came back from a double-digit deficit to down respective foes Saturday in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Hanes Cup at the Arena in San Juan.

The Chiefs, who are now under head coach Koy Banal, trailed by 14 points before turning back Lyceum, 89-81, while the Generals overcame St. Benilde, 77-72, in overtime.

Adam Serjue caught fire from downtown en route to a 22-point night to go along with three rebounds and four assists to lead Arellano....
