Perpetual Help’s Thompson leads NCAA MVP race

August 20, 2014

MANILA, Philippines — University of Perpetual Help swingman Earl Scottie Thompson has emerged as the surprise leader for the MVP award in the NCAA Season 90 men’s basketball tournament.

Thompson, coming off a forgetful Season 89 where he was troubled by injuries, is having his best year so far–a big reason why the Altas are currently in the Final Four picture at the end of the first round of eliminations.

The 21-year-old Thompson tops all players in the statistical race with 57 total stats points–seven points ahead of teammate and second-running Harold Arboleda.

Jonson, a third stringer at the guard spot for College of St. Benilde, upset fan favorite Philip Paniamogan of host Jose Rizal University in the finals of the Three-point Shootout....

Letran topples Ola Adeogun-less San Beda in intense rivalry game

August 14, 2014

Letran took advantage of the absence of rival San Beda’s prized big man Ola Adeogun as the Knights rolled to a 64-53 victory in NCAA Season 90 action Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.

Red Lions coach Boyet Fernandez decided to sit out his star center Adeogun, the league’s leading shot blocker, as a disciplinary action for not attending the team’s last three practices, according to Sports5 courtside reporter Mara Aquino.

That proved to be costly for the Red Lions as they were caught off-guard against the Knights who jumped to a 16-6 first quarter lead....
