Paul scores 34, Clippers beat Jazz 111-106 to take 2-1 lead

Chris Paul finished with 32 points and 10 assists as the LA Clippers beat the Jazz in Utah.SALT LAKE CITY -- Chris Paul scored 34 points and the Los Angeles Clippers rallied for a 111-106 victory over the Utah Jazz on Friday night to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round playoff series.

The Jazz led most of the game before Paul took over in the fourth quarter and powered a 15-0 run that gave the Clippers a 103-96 lead with 2:09 remaining. Utah never led again.

The win negated a spectacular night from Gordon Hayward, who scored a career-high 40 points. But Paul simply dominated the fourth quarter, scoring nine straight himself during the run and getting wherever he wanted on the floor. He iced the game with a pair of free throws with 5.3 seconds remaining and finished with seven rebounds and 10 assists.

DeAndre Jordan had 17 points and 13 rebounds for the Clippers, who played without the injured Blake Griffin in the second half. Luc Mbah a Moute scored a career playoff-high 15 points....

Jazz center Rudy Gobert will miss Game 3 of Utah's first-round series against the Clippers due to a knee injury. Harry How/Getty ImagesSALT LAKE CITY -- Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert will not play in Game 3 against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday after hyperextending his left knee and suffering a bone contusion in the series opener.

The 7-foot-1 Frenchman went down 17 seconds into Game 1 when he knocked knees with Luc Mbah a Moute on the first possession. The Jazz won that game 97-95. The playoff series is tied 1-1.

Gobert, a Defensive Player of the Year candidate, led the league in blocks and defensive win shares. He also ranked third in defensive rating....

Gordon Hayward scored 30 points and Rudy Gobert added 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Jazz to a 106-87 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Gordon Hayward leads the Jazz with 20 points as Utah picks up the road win in Sacramento 112-82.SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Bothered by injuries and missing some key backcourt personnel, the Utah Jazz still managed an impressive victory Wednesday night against the Sacramento Kings.

Gordon Hayward scored 20 points, Rodney Hood had 18 and the Jazz beat the Kings 112-82 to keep pace with two other teams trying to overtake them in the Western Conference.

The victory keeps the Jazz (46-29) in fourth place in the West. The fifth-place Clippers beat Washington to remain 1 1/2 games behind Utah, and sixth-place Oklahoma City also won to stay 2 1/2 games back. The top four teams earn home-court advantage in the opening round of the playoffs....

Rudy Gobert drops a career-high 35 points on 13-of-14 shooting as Utah defeats New York 108-101.SALT LAKE CITY -- Rudy Gobert scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the Utah Jazz rallied from 13 down to defeat the New York Knicks 108-101 on Wednesday night.

The Jazz snapped a three-game losing streak, while the Knicks dropped their third in a row.

Gobert carried the Jazz throughout with the 7-foot-1 Frenchman scoring off pick-and-rolls, offensive rebound put-backs and even going full-court for a dunk after a steal. The Jazz struggled on offense, but Gobert connected on 13 of 14 shots....
