2017 NBA awards finalists announced

Shea/USA TODAY SportsFinalists for the 2017 NBA awards were announced Friday night prior to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. There are three finalists each for the following awards: Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Sixth Man Award, Kia NBA Most Improved Player and NBA Coach of the Year. Rapper/entertainer Drake will help reveal the winners when he hosts the first-ever NBA Awards show June 26.

Most Improved Player of the Year

Milwaukee PG/F Giannis Antetokounmpo: He became just the fifth player in NBA history to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals, joining LeBron James, Kevin Garnett, Scottie Pippen and Dave Cowens. Antetokounmpo has increased his points per game, rebounds, assists, blocks, steals and field goal percentage averages in each of his four seasons....

Clippers to make Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario D-League team

The LA Clippers are working toward introducing their new NBA Develo‎pment League franchise as the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Clippers are closing in on an announcement that would establish Agua Caliente Casino Resort -- one of the club's most prominent sponsors at the NBA level -- as the title sponsor of the club's looming D-League affiliate in a unique naming arrangement.

Ontario, California, is roughly 50 miles away from Los Angeles, which would enable the Clippers to assign and recall players whose D-League rights they hold on an expedited basis....

Johnson scores 28, Jazz beat Clippers 105-98 to even series

Joe Johnson scores 28 points as the Jazz overcome Gordon Hayward's food poisoning to win Game 4, 105-98.SALT LAKE CITY -- Joe Johnson scored 28 points, and the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Clippers 105-98 on Sunday night to tie their first-round playoff series at 2-all.

Johnson, who hit the winning shot in Game 1, scored 11 straight Jazz points during a crucial stretch in the fourth quarter, including a pull-up jumper for a 91-90 lead with 3:55 remaining after trailing by seven early in the period. The Clippers never led again after controlling the game for most of the night.

Rodney Hood and Joe Ingles also hit huge baskets for Utah down the stretch. The Jazz needed all the help they could get after Gordon Hayward left with food poisoning....

Blake Griffin to miss rest of postseason with injury to big toe

Blake Griffin is out of the playoffs.The LA Clippers once again will be tasked with winning in the postseason without Blake Griffin.

Less than 12 hours after rallying for a crucial first-round Game 3 victory over the Utah Jazz, the Clippers announced Saturday morning that Griffin will miss the remainder of the postseason because of a toe injury.

Griffin suffered an injury to the plantar plate of his right big toe in the first half Friday and did not return to the game. The five-time All-Star forward will visit a foot and ankle specialist when the Clippers return to Los Angeles....
