Webmasters sizzle from outside, trounce Stags in PCCL
University of Cebu sizzled from the three-point range, shooting 16-of-41 as the Webmasters scored a 92-71 trouncing of San Sebastian College Thursday in the PCCL National Collegiate Championship at The Arena in San Juan City.
Edward Pao led UC with 25 points behind 7-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc while Robinson Mohammad (6-of-14 from three-point distance) tallied 20 markers as the Webmasters notched their first win after two losses to begin their campaign in Manila.
“This game is the reason why we dominated Cebu,” said UC coach Roel Gomez, a known marksman from the three-point range as his clutch shooting helped the Alaska franchise to its title runs in the PBA during the 1990s. “We played with focus and we had a fluid offense.”
Junmar Fajardo tallied 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Webmasters, who lost to Ateneo (100-53) and San Beda (83-77) in their previous matches.
It was a no-bearing game for San Sebastian as it already secured a twice-to-beat edge in the finals on Monday. The Stags will face the winner of the Ateneo-San Beda match on Friday.
The Webmasters held a 47-45 halftime lead but began to pull away late in the third with Pao’s back-to-back triples highlighted UC’s 8-0 spurt.
Mohammad’s three-pointer gave the Webmasters a 26-point spred, 87-61.
UC will face the loser of Friday’s match in the battle-for-third place. — JVP, GMA News
