Smart Gilas skipper Chris Tiu and 74th UAAP Rookie of the Year Kiefer Ravena will lead a crack roster of athletes and local celebrities in a charity basketball game for victims of typhoon Sendong on Friday at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

All proceeds of the one-day fundraising event, dubbed Fastbreak, will be sent to affected areas in Northern Mindanao particularly the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro.

Aside from the 3 p.m. game, the event will also feature a three-point shootout between legendary sharpshooter Allan Caidic and two-time PBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) James Yap during the halftime break.

Azkal Jason Sabio will also join the three-point shootout along with marksman Jai Reyes and GMA News reporter Mark Zambrano.

"This is our way of helping our kababayans," said Edison Ching of organizer Ignite Media. "We are thankful that a lot of players and celebrities are helping out in this one-of-a-kind activity."

Ravena and Tiu will lead the Red Team that also has Rico Blanco, Jhong Hilario, Xian Lim, Jason Abalos, Marco Alcaraz, Champ Lui Pio, Joross Gamboa, Baser Amer, Terrence Romeo and Anton Altamirano as members.

They will face a White Team bannered by former UAAP MVP RR Garcia, who will be supported by Nico Salva, Gab Valenciano, Jon Hall, Luis Alandy, Joshua Webb, Kevin Alas, Dan Sara, Thirdy Ravena, Rafael Melocoton and Cagayan de Oro natives JP Erram and Sam Marata.

UFL chairman and Kaya FC owner Santi Araneta said members of the Philippine Azkals, who will go up against a Spanish side in a charity game on January 7, will also attend the fundraising event.

Ticket prices are P300 (courtside), P100 (lower box) and P50 (upper box). Courtside tickets, though, have been sold out as of December 31. — JVP, GMA News
