San Beda opens Fr. Martin title defense bid against Lyceum
Defending champion San Beda takes on Lyceum in the second game of a scheduled triple-header in the opening of the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup Saturday at the Arellano University gym in Manila.
Twenty other teams are competing in the tournament organized by multi-titled coaches Ato Badolato and Aric Del Rosario, who also sits as the league's commissioner.
The Red Lions-Pirates match is set at 11 a.m. after the 9 a.m. opening game between Informatics and Mapua. Letran battles La Salle-Lipa at 1 p.m.
Sixteen men's teams and six women's squads are seeing action in the tournament, which will have a single round robin eliminations. The top four teams advance in the one-game semifinals with the winners clashing in a best-of-three finals series.
San Beda is joined by Angeles University Foundation, Arellano, Informatics, International College, Lyceum, Mapua, Trinity Universit of Asia and University of the East in Group 1.
NCAA Season 87 runner-up San Sebastian leads the second group with Letran, 74th UAAP losing finalist FEU, La Salle-Lipa, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila, STI College, Our Lady of Fatima University and UE Team B.
Action in the women's division starts on Sunday with Adamson, National University, University of Santo Tomas, College of St. Benilde, La Salle-Lipa and Lyceum vying for the crown. — JVP, GMA News
