Red Lions, Bulldogs beat respective foes in Fr. Martin Cup

Defending champion San Beda College and National University scored convincing wins in the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup basketball tournament at the Arellano University gym in Legarda, Manila.

The Red Lions, the reigning NCAA champions, held the Trinity University of Asia Stallions to 12 second-quarter points en route to a 109-75 demolition, while the Bulldogs used a huge offensive onslaught in the first half to crush the Informatics Icons, 61-44.

Julius Armon and Kyle Pascual took charge for the Red Lions with 24 and 20 points each as Nigerian Olaide Adeogun was held to 10 markers.

Reden Celda, meanwhile, tallied 14 markers for the Bulldogs with Alfred Aroga and Cedrick Labing-Isa scoring 10 apiece.

The victory pushed San Beda on top of Group A with a 3-0 card followed by NU’s 2-0 slate.

In other matches, Schever Benavidez had 13 points as Our Lady of Fatima University edged Emilio Aguinaldo College, 67-60, while Chris Cayabyab’s 14 markers led Lyceum to a 64-53 win over Angeles University Foundation, 64-53. — JVP, GMA News
