Fr. Martin’s Cup: Arellano clinches last semis seat

MANILA, Philippines -- Former NCAA junior MVP Keith Agovida and Rocky Acidre led the Arellano University Chiefs in a victory over the University of the East Warriors, 80-71, in the quarterfinal round of the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup.

Agovida scored 18 points, while Acidre had 14 to help Arellano get the last slot in the semifinals.

With Agovida firing 12 points in the second half, the Chiefs displayed exceptional composure and never relinquished the lead after bouncing back from a 36-43 half-time deficit.

With Dioncee Holt and Adam Serjue backing up Agovida and Acidre in their 3rd quarter assault, the Chiefs managed to maintain a 6-point edge, 62-56, at the end of the 3rd.

The Chiefs will meet the National University (NU) Bulldogs at 1:30 p.m. when the semi-finals begin on Sunday at the Trinity University of Asia gymnasium in Quezon City.

Defending champion San Beda Red Lions will face the Letran Knights at 12 noon.
