Fr Martin Cup: Sumang free throws lift UE past San Sebastian

Roi Sumang’s free throws shoved University of the East to a thrilling 69-68 win over San Sebastian College in the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup basketball tournament.

Sumang made all three free throws after Dexter Maiquez fouled him while attempting a three-pointer.

Sumang scored 11 of his 20 points in the second half to lead UE to its second straight win in Group B.

Former San Beda Red Cub Von Chavez added 10 markers as the Red Warriors shared the top spot with Our Lady of Fatima University.

In other men’s games, Russel Yaya and John Marco Tayongtong tallied 16 and 13 markers each to lead Emilio Aguinaldo College to an 82-55 trouncing of De La Salle-Lipa.

Nikko Bangga had 14 points as Arellano University edged Trinity University, 58-55.

In the women’s division, Adamson pulled off a 65-64 decision over vastly-improved National University for the Lady Falcons’ second-straight win.

Grace Dadal finished with 14 markers as College of Saint Benilde outplayed La Salle-Lipa, 65-44. — JVP, GMA News
