EAC stuns powerhouse San Sebastian for 1st win in Fr. Martin Cup

Emilio Aguinaldo College stunned 87th NCAA finalist San Sebastian College, 90-84 Saturday in the resumption of action in the 8th Fr. Martin’s Collegiate Open Cup at the Arellano University Gym.

EAC rookie John Acebron made crucial baskets in the final 46 seconds of the match in leading the Generals to their first win in Group B.

Joaquin Maga’s two free throws broke the game’s last deadlock at 81-all with one minute and 23 seconds left. He led EAC’s scoring with 16 points.

The 5-foot-10 Acebron, a prized recruit from Caloocan City, added two free throws and a driving lay-up to cap an 8-2 windup that gave the Generals an 89-83 lead with 15 seconds to go.

In other games, reigning NCAA champion San Beda College cruised to a 108-80 win over Informatics.

Nigerian Olaide Adeogun banged in 12 of his game-high 30 points in the second quarter as the Red Lions started to pull away. San Beda enjoyed a 47-37 halftime lead.

National University—a late entry in the tournament—bucked Bobby Ray Parks’ absence in trouncing Mapua Institute of Technology, 84-70. — JVP, GMA News
