Undermanned Road Warriors take on Superchargers in PBA D-League

November 24, 2011

Undermanned NLEX returns to action after two weeks with the Road Warriors facing Big Chill at 2 p.m. Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Trinity University Gym in Quezon City.

The Road Warriors will be playing minus collegiate standouts Calvin Abuva, Ian Sangalang, Ronald Pascual and RR Garcia due to commitments with their school teams.

Abueva, Sangalang and Pascual will play for San Sebastian in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) while Garcia will suit up for Far Eastern University in the same tournament.

Sinag Pilipinas player Garvo Lanete is also a doubtful starter aftre injuring his shoulder during the 26th Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) basketball tournament in Indonesia.

Dave Marcelo, Cliff Hodge, Chris Ellis and Emmanuel Monfort, however, return to the NLEX line-up after helping  Sinag Pilipinas win the gold medal in the men's basketball competitions of the SEA Games.

NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez said that they can’t take Big Chill lightly especially after the Superchargers bowed to Café France, 71-61, last Monday.

“I’m worried about this game. Even though Big Chill lost their last game, they are a very dangerous team. They have a very good coach and a very strong line-up. And if (Alex) Mallari and (Charles) Jensen would play we will have our hands full," Fernandez said.

In the 4 p.m. second game, Freego Jeans looks to extend its unbeaten slate against DUB Unlimited.

The Jeans Makers are seeking for their sixth win although a semifinals berth remain a long shot.

“The only sure thing right now is that we will be among the six teams that will advance in the next round. Our remaining assignments will be very crucial in our bid for an outright semi-finals berth," said Freego coach Leo Austria.

Before the game, several Freego players will play for Adamson in the PCCL against San Sebastian at 1:30 p.m. — JVP, GMA News
