Road Warriors hope to join hunt for two semis berths

December 09, 2011

NLEX seeks to keep within striking distance of the leaders when it tackles DUB Unlimited Friday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Meralco Gym.

The Road Warriors face the Wheelers at 4 p.m. looking to improve their 3-1 win-loss slate.

NLEX overhauled a 10-point deficit in the final six minutes of the game to escape with a 75-73 victory over Blackwater last Monday.

"The players deserved to win that game," said NLEX coach Boyet Fernandez. "It really tested the character of this team."

The Road Warriors are chasing the top two outright semifinals berths but Freego Jeans and Cebuana Lhuillier are ahead in the race with a 6-1 win-loss card.

In the first game, Big Chill goes up against winless PC Gilmore at 2 p.m. hoping to take one step ahead in the tight race for quarterfinal berths.

The Superchargers are joined by Boracay Rum and RnW Pacific Pipes at fourth spot with a 4-3 win-loss card. All teams are gunning for the third and fourth spots that hold a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.

"With the way we are playing, we are right on target to clinch the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals," said Big Chill coach Arsenio Dysangco.

The Big Chill mentor has all the reasons to be confident especially after coming back from 10 points down to beat Boracay Rum, 85-75, a win that ended the Superchargers’ two-game slide to revive their hopes of a quarterfinal seat. — JVP, GMA News
