Lhuillier taps 3 collegiate stars
MANILA, Philippines — Cebuana Lhuillier has tapped three collegiate stars in its bid to win the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup set to start on Oct. 20.
The Gems will be reinforced by Far Eastern University's Terrence Romeo, Letran center Raymund Almazan and Mapua rookie Yousef Taha as they try to improve on their runner-up finish in the Foundation Cup held last June.
The squad of coach Luigi Trillo will still have holdovers Benedict Fernandez, current Letran star Kevin Alas, Marvin Hayes and Pari Llagas but also added former PBL Most Valuable Player Vic Manuel and ex-La Salle cagers Simon Atkins and James Mangahas.
Also included in the Cebuana lineup are current FEU defender Ping Exciminiano, ex-Tamaraws Paul Sanga and Fil-American Mark Jeffries.
Cebuana will the enter tourney sans Foundation Cup Most Valuable Player Allein Maliksi, who was selected by Barako Bull as the eighth overall pick in the PBA Draft last August.
Alas and Almazan will join the team after their stint with Letran in the NCAA. The Knights are currently in the thick of preparations for their Final Four showdown with either San Beda or San Sebastian.
The Gems are one of 11 teams that will compete in the D-League led by Foundation Cup champion North Luzon Expressway.
