Freego pummels Big Chill to remain on top
Freego breezed past Big Chill, 78-46, Thursday at the Adamson University gym to remain on top of the standings in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.
The Jeans Makers, after being upset by DUB Unlimited last Monday, improved to a 6-1 win-loss record. The Superchargers dropped to 4-3.
Jerick Cañada, Rodney Brondial and Janus Lozada teamed up in the opening period to help Freego, composed mostly by Adamson players, zoom to an early 18-7 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Keith Jensen, who led the Superchargers in their past two games, failed to find his offensive rhythm and even committed a number of errors.
Freego’s defense also held Big Chill to a single-digit score in the second quarter.
Cañada opened the second period with a three-pointer while Oping Sumalinog joined in and connected twice from downtown to give the Leo Austria-coached Jeans Makers a 31-12 spread.
Freego also ruled the battle of the boards with Austin Manyara leading the team to a 40-22 edge at the turn.
Bad luck continues to hound Big Chill in the second half as big man Jewel Ponferrada was thrown out of the game after elbowing John Lopez.
Lozada led Freego’s offensive rampage with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
“Hindi naman kami masyadong confident porket number one kami sa standing ngayon. Di pa rin kasi namin nakakalaban yung NLEX na isa sa mga magaling dito sa D-League,” said Lozada after the game.
“Before, top four lang ang goal namin. But after seeing how our games went, parang kaya namin more than top four. Kung kaya mag-top two, why not di ba?” said Austria. — JVP, GMA News
