Freego guns for semis; Blackwater eyes quarters

January 09, 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Freego Jeans takes on RNW Pacific Pipes today, looking for a win to bolster its bid for an outright semifinal seat even as Blackwater tries to stay in the hunt for a quarterfinal berth in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Astrodome.

With a 6-3 slate, the Jeans Makers have secured a spot in the quarterfinals but are expected to go all out to enhance their drive for a twice-to-beat edge in the next phase.

Cebuana Lhuillier paces the field with an 8-1 mark while NLEX is just behind with a 7-1 card.

Freego Jeans is also out to recover its form heading to the crucial phase after dropping three of its last four matches.

RNW Pipes, on the other hand, hopes to pounce on Freego Jeans’ poor form as it goes for its fifth win in nine games for solo fifth in the 2 p.m. contest.

Blackwater, with a 3-4 card, also needs to hurdle also-ran Cobra in the 12 noon opener.

The Elite are on a four-game skid after a sweep of their first three games and are hard pressed to check their skid to rejoin the race for the quarters.

PC Gilmore and Boracay Rum, tied at 4-5, and Café France (3-5) are the other teams fighting for berths in the quarters.
