DUB clinches 1st win in Aspirants Cup, upsets Freego
DUB Unlimited upset Freego Jeans, 78-62, Thursday in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Trinity University gym in Quezon City.
The Wheelers finally claimed their first win in franchise history after a 0-4 start in the conference.
"Hopefully, this is the start of something for our team. We are still in the adjustment stage and the team is just starting to jell right now,” said DUB Unlimited coach Junel Mendiola.
Freego dropped its first game after wining its first five games as some of their players from Adamson saw action in the PCCL before facing DUB Unlimited.
Marlon Gomez picked up the slack for the Wheelers scoring 19 points including several baskets in the fourth quarter that hurt the Jeans Makers' hopes for a comeback win.
Gomez converted two easy baskets for DUB Unlimited as the Wheelers pulled away further for a 66-48 spread with nearly six minutes remaining in the game.
It was a day of upsets in the D-League after Foundation Cup champion NLEX Road Warriors bowed to Big Chill, 85-83, in the first game. — JVP, GMA News
