Cebuana Lhuillier rejoins top of the standings with blowout of Big Chill

November 29, 2011

Cebuana Lhuillier gained a share of the lead in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup after downing Big Chill, 81-65, Monday at the Far Eastern University gym.

The Gems’ lopsided victory over the Superchargers tied them for first place with Freego Jeans with a 5-1 win-loss slate.

“We know that Big Chill is going to be physical against us. Our game didn’t take a step back and it’s a testament on how we respected Big Chill,” said Cebuana Lhuillier coach Luigi Trillo.

After a close encounter in the first half, the Gems started the third period on a roll pulling away on an 18-5 run to start off the third period.

Vic Manuel led Cebuana Lhuillier’s onslaught with 18 points and 15 rebounds followed by Pari Llagas and Terrence Romeo who each had 14 points. Romeo, playing in front of his home crowd in FEU, scored a tough lay-in that was cheered by the fans to settle the final count.

Big Chill dropped to 4-2 and failed to follow up its upset victory over NLEX last Thursday. They now occupy third place going into its Thursday match against Freego Jeans.

It was a physical match-up as the game saw the ejection of Big Chill’s Jewel Ponferrada, who rammed Jai Reyes in the final period.

Chris Jensen had 13 points and Raymond Maconocido had 10 points for Big Chill.
