Big Chill freezes Blackwater to advance into Aspirants Cup semis

January 20, 2012

The Big Chill Superchargers bounced back from a slow start to trounce the Blackwater Elite, 82-62, to clinch a semifinals spot in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The fourth-seeded Superchargers will take on top-ranked NLEX Road Warriors in the best-of-three semifinals series which starts on Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan City.

It will be an interesting semifinal affair for the two teams as Big Chill shocked NLEX, 85-83, last November for the Road Warriors' only defeat of the conference.

Blackwater got off to a good start, posting a 22-9 lead in the first quarter, but they just scored in single digits in the second and third periods as Big Chill rallied and eventually pulled away.

"We got into a big hole in the first period. Then, we really came back and got our game going especially in the third period,” said Big Chill coach Arsenio Dysangco.

After a 35-31 lead at the break, Big Chill opened the third with an 11-1 blitz thanks to baskets from close range, before ending the quarter with another flurry of shots to enter the final canto up by 18, 57-39.

Jessie Collado tallied 15 points, thanks in part to a 3-o- 5 clip from behind the arc, Jewel Ponferrada had 12 points and 10 rebounds while Raymond Maconocido, Alex Mallari and Raffy Reyes combined for 27 points for Big Chill.

Clark Bautista led the Elite with 17 points. — AMD/JVP, GMA News
