Tratter confident La Salle to remain defensive-minded under new coach

MANILA, Philippines – Abu Tratter has no doubt that De La Salle University will maintain its character as a defensive-minded squad in the next UAAP season, even with the exit of head coach Aldin Ayo.

Ayo's famed "mayhem" style of basketball brought the Green Archers to new heights in the past couple of seasons. Their frenetic pressure defense took the UAAP by storm in 2016, when they lost only one game in Season 79 en route to the championship.

Teams began to figure their press out in Season 80, but the uber-talented La Salle team still made it all the way to the finals, where they lost to archrivals Ateneo de Manila University in three highly-entertaining games.

Now, Ayo is gone from La Salle, having jumped ship to University of Santo Tomas, his third team in four seasons. Tratter has exhausted his eligibility, while two-time Ben Mbala opted to leave the team amid uncertainty of his status for next year.

In charge of the Green Archers now is Louie Gonzalez, who for the past three seasons has been Ayo's chief deputy.
