Several PBA players volunteer for 3x3 national team

MANILA, Philippines – Who will represent the Philippines in the 2018 FIBA 3x3 World Cup at home this June?

"It's very heartwarming," SBP executive director Sonny Barrios said Thursday during the official unveiling of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup logo at the Bonifacio High Street. "Without naming names, we're getting a lot of volunteers from the PBA players, especially from those who have already played 3x3 here and abroad."

Barrios did not go into specifics, but according to SBP president Al Panlilio, some 20 players have already shown interest in playing for the country.

"We just have to work with the coaches, and who will be the best four players that we can choose, and commit to the World Cup," Panlilio said. "And you know, it's in our country, so sana we can really come up with a good team to compete and hopefully spur the development of 3x3 here."

Several high-profile Filipino players have competed in various international 3x3 events over the years.

Terrence Romeo and Calvin Abueva are perhaps the most prominent names, while Kiefer Ravena and Jeron Teng have also seen action in international 3x3 tilts. Kobe Paras, of course, has been competing in 3x3 events since he was a teenager, and was part of last year's World Cup team.
