NLEX's Alas excited as showdown with father's team looms

MANILA, Philippines – Kevin Alas is approaching NLEX's upcoming game against Phoenix on Sunday with utmost professionalism, even as it marks the first time that he will be playing against his father, coach Louie Alas.

"Sa Alaska, assistant coach siya, deputy," the younger Alas said Wednesday after NLEX's practice. "It's the first time na makakalaban ko 'yung dad ko as a head coach, then ako, on the opposing team as a player."

"Siyempre, excited ako," he added.

Coach Louie has acknowledged that his own son is one of the NLEX players that Phoenix will need to watch out for. So far, Kevin is averaging 11.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Road Warriors, who have won their first two games of the PBA Philippine Cup.

The Phoenix coach even joked that they will play trapping defense on Kevin even in the parking area of the game venue.

According to Kevin, his dad even talked some trash over the holidays, as their family spent Christmas and New Year together.
