Gilas ’23 pool not final until it’s final

MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes stressed the youngsters he named to his “23 for ’23” pool must prove themselves if they’re to make the Philippine quintet to be pitted against the world’s best in the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

And Reyes insisted it’s not the final list, mentioning the case of La Salle young guns not allowed by the school to be included in the pool “just yet.”

Conspicuously left out of the roster are La Salle aces Ricci Rivero, Aljun Melecio and Andrei Caracut.

“La Salle has asked us not to include any of their players first because they’re in the process now of transition and reformation of their program,” said Reyes on Sports Center Philippines.

The La Salle Green Archers team is in transition period following Louie Gonzalez’ takeover of the head coaching job left by Aldin Ayo.

Ateneo stars Thirdy Ravena, Matt Nieto and Isaac Go, San Beda’s Robert Bollick, Lyceum’s Jaymar Perez and US collegiate player Kobe Paras lead the “23 for ‘23” roster that also include Kai Sotto, Paul Desiderio, Abu Tratter, Juan Gomez de Llano, Remy Martin, Jay Alejandro, Kenneth Tuffin, Jeo Ambohot, Dwight Ramos, Joshua Sinclair, Arvin Tolentino, Javee Mocon, AJ Edu, Carl Tamayo, Kenmark Carino, Will Gozum and Troy Rike.
