Fil-Am Dwight Ramos shocked at '23 for 23' inclusion

The Filipino basketball world has been abuzz about the "23 for 23" pool – the preliminary group of players unveiled by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Included in the list is Filipino-American guard Dwight Ramos, who is currently playing for California State University, Fullerton.

Though it is more known as a baseball school, Fullerton has nevertheless produced some quality basketball players, including three-time NBA champion Bruce Bowen and former All-Star Cedric Ceballos.

Trying to follow in their footsteps is Ramos, who is one of three Filipino-Americans guards included in the pool, along with Arizona State University's Remy Martin and Wake Forest University's Troy Rike.

"I was surprised," said Ramos. "But I'm just excited to represent the Philippines and represent my family here."

The 19-year-old Ramos takes pride in coming from West Covina, one of the country's largest Filipino hubs.
