Alaska's Compton doesn't relish blowout win over ex-coach's team

MANILA, Philippines — The Alaska Aces piled on the woes of the Kia Picanto on Sunday, as they clobbered the sorry franchise by 37 points.

It was just the latest in a string of awful losses for the Picanto, who have now dropped 16 straight games since last year’s Commissioner’s Cup. It is the longest losing streak in the PBA since 1992.

Kia head coach Ricky Dandan fully acknowledged that his team was struggling, but could not offer any solutions other than promising that they will continue to fight.

It is a struggle that Alaska coach Alex Compton is very familiar with. After all, he and Dandan were part of the coaching staff of Welcoat when they lost 15 straight games a decade ago - a mark of futility that Kia tied last Wednesday with a loss to Magnolia.

“I’ve been in that position as an assistant, when we started at Welcoat. It's tough, it's really tough,” said Compton, who was also Dandan’s player in the Manila Metrostars of the now-defunct Metropolitan Basketball Association.
