With mom watching, Chris Ross runs the show for SMB

MANILA, Philippines – Chris Ross always play with great intensity whenever he steps onto the court, but there was an extra bounce in his step on Sunday when San Miguel Beer played its first game of the 2017-18 PBA All-Filipino Cup.

It was not just because the Beermen were opening their bid for a fourth consecutive Philippine Cup crown. Ross played even more inspired than usual because his mother, Virginia, was in town to watch him play live for the first time in years.

"She arrived early this week, but she was in Clark for five days," said Ross. "She just got to Manila today. She came here for the game."

Virginia Ross would always watch San Miguel games through TFC, and last watched Ross play live some three years ago. With the rare opportunity to have his mother in the audience at the Big Dome, Ross made sure to pull out his bag of tricks.

He scored 16 points, making six of his nine attempts from the field. He also had six rebounds and nine assists, several of which were of the crafty type. He found June Mar Fajardo for easy shots inside, and launched full court passes for lay-ups.
