Plenty of lessons for Perkins in first PBA game

MANILA, Philippines – Phoenix rookie Jason Perkins was far from pleased with his performance in his debut in the PBA, but vowed to learn from his mistakes and get better as the season progresses.

The Fuel Masters were thrown to the fire early in the All-Filipino Cup, as they opened their campaign against three-time defending champion San Miguel Beer. Perkins, the fourth pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft, was a starter in his debut, and had some good moments.

He managed to score against reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo, and looked mostly comfortable in Phoenix's fast-paced style. But he also struggled to defend without fouling, particularly against SMB's veteran frontline.

Perkins, a two-time champion with De La Salle University in the UAAP, finished with 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting, while also grabbing nine rebounds. Phoenix lost to SMB, 104-96, on Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.

"Not good. It wasn't good," Perkins said bluntly when asked to rate his performance. "It wasn't as good as I would've liked to play."
