Ostapenko teams up with David Taylor for upcoming season

Jelena Ostapenko will have a new voice in her coaching team for 2018: WTA Gold Coach David Taylor.

Anabel Medina Garrigues coached Ostapenko for much of last season, including during her breakout run to her first Grand Slam title in Paris, but the 35-year-old was named the new captain of the Spanish Fed Cup team in October.

French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko will be coached by WTA Gold Coach David Taylor for the upcoming season.
"Our cooperation with Anabel has come to an end and I will not be working with her next season," Ostapenko told Latvian news agencies this week. "My mom will always be my head coach, but now I've been practicing with Australian David Taylor for two weeks."

The report also states that Ostapenko and Media Garrigues parted on friendly terms, and that the World No.7 and Taylor will work together for a period of 15 weeks.

Taylor, a member of the WTA Coach Program Advisory Board, was the longtime coach of compatriot Samantha Stosur, but has also worked with Alicia Molik, Ana Ivanovic and Martina Hingis, among others.

Last season, the Australian worked with Japan's Naomi Osaka, who will be coached by Sascha Bajin in 2018 - the famed hitting partner's first head coaching job.
