La Salle throws support behind Ayo as Green Archers begin to rebuild

MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University on Wednesday expressed its support for head coach Aldin Ayo despite the Green Archers' failure to defend its crown in the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball tournament.

In a statement, the team management and the university's Office of Sports Development said that they are "firmly behind Coach Aldin Ayo and his staff as we start the process of rebuilding for the future."

The statement comes weeks after the Green Archers lost to archrivals Ateneo de Manila University in three games in the UAAP Season 80 Finals, upon which Ayo acknowledged that that his status in La Salle was "day to day."

Ayo has been linked to a move to University of Santo Tomas, as the head coaching position for the Growling Tigers remains vacant upon the departure of Boy Sablan.

However, with La Salle's statement it appears that Ayo will continue to call the shots for the Green Archers. He took over the team in 2016 and led them to the UAAP Season 79 title before falling short this time around.
