Ateneo's Thirdy Ravena earns UAAP Finals MVP honors

MANILA, Philippines – A cut on his left arm was not about to stop Thirdy Ravena from doing all that he can to power Ateneo de Manila University to the UAAP Season 80 men's basketball championship.

Blood stained Ravena's white jersey and forced him to be subbed out with just two minutes left to play in their do-or-die Game 3 against De La Salle University, but after getting his arm bandaged, Ravena came right back in the game and proceeded to anchor the biggest play of the contest.

With Ateneo's lead down to two points, 82-80, and still 48.9 seconds to go, Ravena ran a routine play with Isaac Go that left the big man wide open for a triple. Go reliably knocked down the clutch three-pointer, giving the Blue Eagles an 85-80 cushion that proved enough to withstand the Green Archers' last-ditch rally.

The Blue Eagles held on for an 88-86 victory over the Green Archers, giving them the UAAP Season 80 title – their first since 2012.

Ravena, who averaged solid all-around numbers of 16.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, earned Finals MVP honors for his efforts.
