Chinese Taipei's Davis downplays Gilas' home court advantage

MANILA, Philippines – Even as he was soundly booed by over 11,000 Filipino fans every time he touched the basketball, Quincy Davis III of Chinese Taipei does not think home court advantage played a major role in their loss to SMART Gilas Pilipinas on Monday night.

Davis tried his best to lift Chinese Taipei to an upset win, scoring early and often to help his squad zoom to an early 17-3 advantage. However, the Philippines' second unit, bolstered by an increasingly boisterous crowd, trimmed that deficit to five at the end of the first quarter.

The Philippines and Chinese Taipei then engaged in toe-to-toe basketball for the next two frames, before Gilas finally pulled away in the final quarter for a 90-83 win.

"Good thing we're at home," said Kiefer Ravena, a part of the second unit that infused life into the Philippines. "We fed off the energy from the crowd. It was great help, especially since pagod na lahat."

For Davis, however, the boos of the Filipino crowd had little effect on them.
