Sources: Steve Kerr to travel separately from Warriors due to passport delay

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr will travel separately from the team to China on Sunday, due to a passport processing delay, league sources tell ESPN.

A batch of passports were delayed -- at no fault of the Warriors or Kerr -- in being transported back to the team from the East Coast processing center, sources say.

No players were affected, sources say. Kerr will take a commercial flight later Sunday.

Players were made aware of Kerr's situation on Saturday after the team's 108-102 loss to the Denver Nuggets, according to sources.

If Kerr was forced to remain behind, assistant Mike Brown would have coached the two exhibition games this week against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Shenzhen and Shanghai.

Brown led the Warriors to an 11-0 playoff mark last season when Kerr took time off to find a cure to his ailments stemming from a botched surgical procedure on his back two years ago.

The Warriors will return to the United States on Oct. 9. Their fourth and final preseason game will be on Oct. 13 against the Sacramento Kings.
